People are busy, busy, busy in modern society. Too busy to stop and
think about the meaning of life. Sense of perspective is getting
narrower. A lot of people, especially in big cities, fall into depression
at some point. The number of "Karo-shi" (death due to over work)
is increasing, and more than 30,000 people every year (since 1998,
as of 2010) commit suicide in Japan. Mankind needs love and hope.
There was a moment that I felt something beyond my control, and discovered
there is something deeper in each scene I encountered. Technically,
I controlled the camera exposure and other things...yet, there IS
something we (human) cannot control... I love light. It gives energy
and even hope. The light at the scene changed in seconds...so quickly.
My heart was calm, yet urged to capture the scene synchronizing with
my emotion. I made 30 images from France, Portugal,
California, and Japan for this series. The photographs were shot
from 2000 to 2002 when I went through the most difficult
time in my life back then. The photographs also represent the different
cultural and religious values among countries, in comparison to traditional
Japanese religion or way of thinking. Hopefully the photographs
give you a glimpse to see life from different perspectives.... touch
your soul even a little. Fill your heart with calmness, a light
of hope, and peace in your mind. |
